EFF, Mozilla, Cisco, Akamai, Identrust, and researchers at the University of Michigan today announced a new certificate authority (CA) initiative called “Let’s Encrypt”. According to the group, “Let’s Encrypt is a new free certificate authority, built on a foundation of cooperation and openness, that lets everyone be up and running with basic server certificates for their domains through a simple one-click process.”
The Let’s Encrypt CA will be operated by a new non-profit organization called the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG) and is set to launch in Q2 2015.
