PirateBay Domains to Be Handed over to the State, Swedish Court Rules

The Swedish court ruling on Thursday will result in confiscation of ‘ThePirateBay.se’ and ‘PirateBay.se’ from one the worlds most popular torrent websites. The Swedish Prosecution Authority had filed a petition with the Stockholm District Court requesting the seizure of two domain names from the Registry of Swedish Domains IIS (formerly .SE). “In common with the District Court ruling the Court of Appeal finds that there is a basis for confiscation since the domain names assisted crimes under the Copyright Act,” says a written statement published on the website of the Svea Court of Appeal. “This means that the right to the domain names falls to the state.”
