ICANN Website Breached, Passwords Obtained by an Unauthorized Person

Usernames/email addresses and encrypted passwords for profile accounts created on the ICANN.org public website have been obtained by an unauthorized person, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers announced Wednesday night. more

ICG Seeking Public Feedback on Key Internet Governance Proposal

The IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination Group (ICG) on Friday released for public comment the proposal for the transition of the stewardship of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) functions from the U. S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to the global multistakeholder community. Neustar Acquires Bombora Technologies, the Holding Group for Ari Registry Services and AusRegistry

Neustar announces that it has acquired Bombora Technologies Pty Ltd (Bombora), based in Australia, for AUD $118.5 million, or approximately USD $86.9 million. Bombora and its subsidiaries, which include ARI Registry Services, provide registry services for a number of top-level domains (TLDs) including .au, .melbourne, .sydney, and over 100 new TLDs, including several in the Fortune 500. more

Auction to Sell .versicherung Top Level Domain

The Top-Level Domain (TLD) .versicherung (German word for INSURANCE) managed by dotversicherung-registry GmbH in Hamburg, will be holding an international auction executed by Right of the dot, LLC in Lauderdale USA in collaboration with Heritage Auctions. The auction will take place on 26th of August 2015, 10:00 am Eastern Standard Time (UTC -4:00). more

SpaceX Files Application with FCC to Offer Internet Access Via Satellite Constellation

SpaceX, the private space company headed by Elon Musk, has filed an application with the US FCC (Federal Communications Commission) as part of a preliminary plan to launch a network of satellites providing Internet access around the globe. The application submitted last week (May 29th), outlines two satellites initially to be launched by Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX), and later expanding to 6-8 trial satellites that will be in orbit for 6-12 months. more
