ARI Registry Services facilitated the delegation of its second .brand Top-Level Domain (TLD) client to the web when the World Trade Center’s .wtc TLD was switched on live during the week.
Following technical testing to meet ICANN’s stringent requirements, .wtc joined the likes of, ????. .menu, .build, .luxury and .monash when ARI Registry Services added the namespace to the Internet’s authoritative root zone servers.
More than 250 TLDs have already been delegated out of the almost 1400 new domains applied for. The delegation of .wtc follows the lead of Monash University, who—with the assistance of ARI Registry Services—became the first major organisation in the world to delegate a .brand TLD when .monash was added to the web in January.
Most of the delegated strings to date have been generic words, with relatively few brand applicants ready to launch.
Jeremy Ebbels, General Manager—Registry Services—Global Division at ARI Registry Services, said the delegation of another .brand TLD complements the company’s position as a leading provider of registry services and TLD consulting services.
“We’ve been at the forefront of the new TLD program from the start, as the first applicant to sign a new TLD contract, the first technology provider to pass the program’s stringent testing regime, and one of the first new TLDs to be added live on the Internet,” Mr Ebbels said.
“ARI Registry Services is the appointed technology provider for more than 100 new Top-Level Domain applicants globally, including some of the world’s leading brands, entrepreneurs and governments - many of whom utilise our expert consultancy services to prepare for activation and ongoing maintenance of their Top-Level Domains.”
Mr Ebbels said further announcements regarding the launch of other clients are expected throughout the year.
