OpenAI and Meta are among 13 applicants seeking .agent in ICANN’s 2026 new generic top-level domain round, while Link Freedom Group Ltd and XYZ.COM LLC have the largest portfolios among the named applicants in the disclosed records.
ICANN’s October 7 release covers 1,615 applications from 481 applicants. A CircleID count of primary application records in its public application database, excluding replacement-string records, shows which entities want particular extensions. These are applications to operate top-level domains; publication does not confer approval or make the proposed extensions available for registration.
OpenAI is seeking both product names and generic terms. OPENAI OPCO, LLC has 15 primary applications, including .openai, .chatgpt, .codex and .gpt, alongside .agent, .agi, .asi, .mcp, .model and .voice. Its remaining strings are .daybreak, .deploy, .evals, .oai and .skill.
Meta Registry Holdings LLC has 18 primary applications, including .facebook, .instagram, .whatsapp, .threads, .messenger and .meta. Its proposals also include .llama, .metaai, .aiglasses, .metaglasses, .wearables and .superintelligence. Anthropic, PBC has two: .anthropic and .claude.
Charleston Road Registry Inc. has 39 primary applications, including .gemini, .deepmind, .chromium, .pixel, .waymo and .workspace, as well as .agent, .api, .intelligence and .mcp.
The largest disclosed portfolios extend well beyond AI. Link Freedom Group Ltd has 158 primary applications, including .agi, .asi, .api, .auth, .coin and .commerce. XYZ.COM LLC has 139, including .agent, .api, .automation, .bakery and .brand. Registry Services, LLC follows with 77, Intercap Registry Inc. with 71, and Radix Technologies Inc SEZC with 46. These counts treat each named legal applicant separately, without consolidating affiliates.

.agent has more applications than .agi and .asi combined. ICANN’s Reveal Day contention list [CSV File Download] identifies 13 applicants for .agent, seven for .agi and five for .asi. OpenAI and Radix appear in all three sets. Meta seeks .agent; Link Freedom Group seeks .agi and .asi. The matrix identifies every applicant for those three strings.

Competition also reaches other commercial and technical terms: .bit has 11 applications, while .api, .brand and .hub each have 10.
The strings remain subject to change. Under ICANN’s announced timetable, eligible applicants can elect replacement strings October 8—21. String Confirmation Day on November 17 will bring a finalized string list and updated contention sets, and open the Community Input and Objections Period. Evaluation, contention resolution where required, contracting and delegation remain subsequent steps.
