ICANN Announces Newly Created Organization to Replace IANA

ICANN has announced the name of the newly incorporated organization, Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), as a nonprofit entity to begin operation as ‘Post-Transition IANA’. ICANN said in its announcement on Thursday, that although PTI is officially a legal entity, it will not be performing any work yet. “PTI will only start performing the IANA functions upon the successful completion of the transition. At that point, PTI will perform the IANA functions pursuant to an IANA Naming Functions Contract with ICANN.”
