Slovenia’s .si country-code domain recorded 46,066 new registrations in September, with demand accelerating after U.S. President Donald Trump began promoting “Super Intelligence,” or SI, as a replacement term for artificial intelligence. The surge has turned an established country-code domain into an object of international domain speculation.
Registrations accelerated sharply after Trump’s September 22 UN speech. Trump told the UN General Assembly that the U.S. government would use “Super Intelligence” and “SI,” a change he formalized by executive order on September 29. The order directs executive departments and agencies to use the new terminology in official correspondence, websites, reports and other non-statutory documents.
That linguistic change happens to match Slovenia’s two-letter country code. According to Register.si, the registry operated by Slovenia’s Academic and Research Network, 46,066 .si domains were registered during September. By October 1, the registry was reporting 13,603 registrations during the preceding 24 hours and 241,459 registered domains overall. Domain Name Wire reported that registrations approached 12,000 a day during the final two days of September.
Third-party measurements show .si temporarily outpacing .ai. An analysis by Austrian registrar Domaintechnik, using DomainNameStat data through September 29, counted 17,621 new .si domains between September 23 and 29, compared with 7,209 .ai registrations—about 2.4 times as many. Its data put September 23 registrations at 3,234, more than 30 times the roughly 100-per-day rate earlier in the month.
The same dataset shows the measured .si zone expanding from 241,846 to 262,319 domains between September 19 and 29, an 8.5% increase. That figure differs from Register.si’s registry total because the sources use different measurements; the official registry currently reports 241,459 registered domains.
Much of the early demand appears speculative. Domaintechnik reports that registrar Dynadot manages 33,572 .si domains, representing 12.8% of the DomainNameStat total, while Netcraft found that about 52% of .si names registered through Dynadot from September 19 through 22 were subsequently offered for resale. Domain Name Wire similarly found little evidence so far of companies adopting .si as an operating identity rather than investors acquiring names for resale.
Slovenia’s registry has cautioned against comparisons with the financial windfall enjoyed by Anguilla from .ai. Register.si charges registrars €10 per domain and has rejected reports that the surge is generating millions of euros for Slovenia; Domain Name Wire estimated roughly €300,000 in additional September registry revenue.
Anguilla illustrates the much larger potential value of a country code that acquires a global second meaning. Its government earned about US$85.3 million from .ai registrations in 2025, according to figures obtained from the territory’s Ministry of Finance, after the AI boom turned the small Caribbean territory’s ccTLD into an international technology namespace.
