We saw it in San Jose, then in Taipei and in Philadelphia and now it is about to happen in Denver Colorado! Yes, the IPv6 hour is about to occur a fourth and even a fifth time! The upcoming ARIN XXI will have a pre-game and a main event IPv6 hour with technical staff to assist the neophytes on their first dive into the IPv6 only world... In the meantime in the Geneva Auto show, impact of IPv6 on ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems/Services) was a topic on its own with a revealing and well timed presentation by Thierry Ernst of Inria, the French Institute of Research in Informatics and Automation. more
Here we are with the ninth year of measuring IPv6 on the Christmas Goat. Last year we had almost no snow and it's almost the same this year. This year I give you 50 seconds of "action" film with the goat from the early in December. But the measurement was a big disappointment. They started high with 60% IPv6 and went down to 41% at the end. But as can be seen with the progress, next year we should easily break the 50% barrier! more

An interesting new paper from the Naval Postgraduate School describes what appears to be an interesting new twist on spam filtering, looking at the characteristics of the TCP session through which the mail is delivered. They observe that bots typically live on cable or DSL connections with slow congested upstreams. ... This paper tries to see whether it would be practical to use that info to manage spam in real time. more
The United States and its allies are in a technology cold war with China and its allies. This is evidenced by major battles like the US ban on Huawei and China's drive for technological independence and their global infrastructure program to create a digital silk road. (The cold war began under Trump, but President Biden is continuing it). There are other, less well-known battles like the battle over optical communication in space. more

Yes, that is a title of a real, current legal case and controversy. And, no, the links in this post are not spam... mostly gambling news sites seem to be reporting on this. The Governor of Kentucky, through his Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, has moved in court to have 141 gambling-related domain names transferred to the Kentucky state government, partially because other legal gambling operations in Kentucky, like horseracing, lose revenue to online gaming. Yes, you read that right: by allegedly violating KY law, the state can move to have property used in these unlawful acts transferred to the state. In this case, the "property" in question is the domain names themselves. This case is definitely novel in the realm of cyberlaw, but also is a bit controversial for how it originally proceeded... more
