Facebook has announced a new routing system aimed at solving fast-recovery challenges for its Terragraph network that brings high-speed internet connectivity to dense urban areas.
The application platform named Open/R, has already been adapted for use with other part of Facebook’s networking infrastructure, the company reports, which has plans to open-source Open/R at some point. Petr Lapukhov, Network Engineer at Facebook writes: “Open/R makes it possible to prototype and deploy new network applications much more quickly than with the industry’s standard development process. Being able to iterate quickly is central to our ability to improve the speed, efficiency, and quality of internet connectivity around the world.”
