NeuStar Buys Webmetrics

NeuStar Inc., which provides clearinghouse services to the Internet and communications industries, has acquired San Diego company Webmetrics Inc. for $12.5 million in an all-cash transaction.

Sterling-based NeuStar said in a Tuesday statement that Webmetrics, which monitors and measures Web and network performance, will be added to the NeuStar Ultra Services group.

NeuStar may pay an additional $6 million in cash if Webmetrics meets previously set financial goals, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The acquisition comes two weeks after NeuStar announced it appointed former SunRocket chief executive Lisa Hook president and chief operating officer.

Hook, who oversaw the second-largest Internet phone startup, which dissolved in July, took her position with NeuStar Jan. 7. She replaced Larry Bouman, who will continue to advise the company.

In its most recent quarter ended Sept. 30, NeuStar (NYSE: NSR) earned $25.7 million, up from $17.1 million in the year-ago quarter. Third-quarter revenue was $28.5 million, a slight drop from $28.6 million in the year-ago quarter.
