WhoisXML API Introduces MCP Server to Bring LLMs Direct Access to Internet Infrastructure Intelligence

WhoisXML API announces the launch of its MCP server that allows large language models (LLMs) to query 17 of its APIs, enabling users to access unique internet infrastructure intelligence data, run bulk queries and conduct complex internet infrastructure research projects directly from the chatbot interface using natural language.

The MCP server is software that enables the use of the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that enables LLMs and other AI systems to securely connect to external data sources. The protocol uses a client-server architecture, where the client is the AI application that connects to the MCP server.

Currently, WhoisXML API’s MCP server works with 17 of its APIs:

  • DNS Chronicle API
  • DNS Lookup API
  • Domain and Subdomain Discovery API
  • Email Verification API
  • IP Geolocation API
  • IP Netblocks API
  • Reverse DNS API
  • Reverse IP API
  • Reverse MX API
  • Reverse NS API
  • Reverse WHOIS API
  • SSL Certificates API
  • Subdomain Lookup API
  • Threat Intelligence API
  • Website Categorization API
  • WHOIS API
  • WHOIS History API

Using WhoisXML API’s MCP server, users can simply ask the LLM of their choice to look up the data that they need, without needing to code anything. The LLM will run the API query and return the results in natural language as well, focused on the exact information the user requires.

The MCP server enables users to do much more than individual lookups. With a longer prompt, users can make the chatbot query multiple APIs at once, getting information for multiple data points. This enables the users to investigate malicious infrastructure, for example, by retrieving historical WHOIS and DNS data of domains, subdomains, and IP addresses tagged as indicators of compromise (IoCs) and running reverse lookups based on this data—all in one prompt.

The MCP server can also be used to accelerate early-stage product development by combining different types of data retrieval, such as subdomains and WHOIS ownership details, with a natural language interface that enables teams to explore, refine, and validate concepts for future integration into advanced EASM, threat intelligence, and other cybersecurity platforms.

The MCP server itself is completely free to use. To help new users get started and test the server, WhoisXML API offers free API credits upon sign-up. Existing WhoisXML API customers can use their API keys to configure the MCP server.

The MCP server is compatible with popular AI tools such as Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Cursor, and others.

“The WhoisXML API MCP server is intended to further democratize access to WhoisXML API Internet intelligence, allowing anyone—from seasoned investigators to people without any technical background—to access the rich data WhoisXML API has collected over the years, all through a familiar chatbot interface. What once required long hours of coding can now be done in minutes, giving users at all levels of technical expertise the means to access deep infrastructure insights,” said Alexandre François, Director at WhoisXML API.
