IPv6 traffic is expected to reach 54 percent of total mobile data traffic, up from 13 percent in 2015, according to Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast, 2015-2020 which has since being updated with additional study. The report also predicts by 2020, 66 percent of mobile devices/connections will be IPv6-capable - up from 36 percent in 2015. more
Yesterday Apple declared that as of June 1 all iOS apps submitted to the AppStore MUST support IPv6-only networking. Back at their June 2015 WWDC event, Apple announced that all iOS 9 applications must support IPv6 - the news this week is reinforcing that requirement... As Apple continues to point out, the vast majority of application developers will not need to do anything to support IPv6. more
A Brazilian judge on Monday issued a 72-hour ban on WhatsApp chat service throughout Brazil. The measure which took effect at 2 p.m. was issued on April 26 following a failed 2013 access order from a branch of civil police that investigates criminal activity online. more
European commission has taken a preliminary view that Google abused its mobile operating system's dominant position, following an initial one-year investigation. "What we found is that Google pursues an overall strategy on mobile devices to protect and expand its dominant position in internet search," says Margrethe Vestager, the EU competition chief. more
According to the latest computer and Internet use data released by NTIA, Americans as a whole are becoming less likely to have residential broadband. NTIA's Chief Economist, Giulia McHenry, in blogs post today wrote: "Americans’ rapid move toward mobile Internet service appears to be coming at the expense of home broadband connections." more

As I type these words, I am perched on one of the benches in the main thoroughfare of the cavernous venue hosting Mobile World Congress (MWC). Development of Firefox OS will soon cease completely and by the end of May, company has announced, it will pull all staff and resources completely away from Firefox OS. "The circumstances of multiple established operating systems and app ecosystems meant that we were playing catch-up, and the conditions were not there for Mozilla to win on commercial smartphones," according to a statement from Mozilla developer George Roter. more
