The upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF), taking place 21-24 January, 2015 in Switzerland, is dubbed “The New Global Context”. The theme aims at reflecting “the period of profound political, economic, social and technological change that the world has entered, which has the potential to end the era of economic integration and international partnership that began in 1989, says WEF’s recent announcement.”
The Annual Meeting 2015 is to provide a platform for over 50 initiatives that are currently underway by the Forum including an “endeavour to build a broad-based, multilateral global architecture for governing the internet.”
2,500 leaders are said to be participating in the meeting from business, government, international organizations, civil society, academia, media and the arts.
Update Oct 11, 2014: WEF has released an update to the above quoted statement stating that the description of the Internet Initiative has been changed due to an editing error on the original. It now reads: “[A] multistakeholder endeavour to stimulate more cross-industry and cross-ministry strategic dialogue on ways to strengthen multistakeholder Internet governance ?and cooperation.”
