Appointments and operations at three hospitals in the United Kingdom were canceled for five days due to cyberattack on the computer network. According to reports, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust that runs three local hospitals—Scunthorpe General, the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, and Goole and District Hospital—discovered a computer virus on Sunday, 30 October, leading to the official announcement of a major incident and shutting down of the IT systems and cancelling almost all planned operations and outpatient appointments. Patients in need of emergency services, major trauma cases and high-risk women in labor were directed to nearby hospitals. The IT systems were restored on Wednesday following Sunday’s attack and a criminal investigation is underway.
