Domain Name Registrations Pass 205 Million

The global base of Internet domain names grew by nearly 3.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief, published by VeriSign, Inc. According to the report, the fourth quarter of 2010 closed with a base of 205.3 million domain name registrations across all Top Level Domains (TLDs), or a 1.7 percent increase over the third quarter. Registrations have grown by 12.1 million, or 6.3 percent year over year.

The largest TLDs in terms of base size are report to be, in order: .com, .de (Germany), .net, .org, .uk, .info, .cn (China), .nl (Netherlands), .eu (European Union) and .ru (Russian Federation).
