Religion, Tech and Automotive Sectors Get the Luck of the Draw in New Top-Level Domain Program

Internet users are likely to see the first new Top-Level Domains appear from the technology and automotive sectors as early as July next year, according to major infrastructure provider for new Top-Level Domain applicants, ARI Registry Services.

The global governing body for the Internet (ICANN) held a Prioritisation Draw on Monday to determine the order in which evaluation results will be released for the 1930 new Top-Level Domain (TLD) program applicants.

The draw provides the first indication of what the new internet landscape could look like with the Chinese script version of .catholic drawing first. “It was a fantastic outcome to see one of our clients first out of the hat,” said CEO of ARI Registry Services Adrian Kinderis. “We’re now one step closer to seeing new Top Level Domains go live and it’s exciting for us to play a major role as a technology provider that will help turn all of this hype into a reality.”

Global applicants Amazon, Fiat and Epson also got the luck of the early draw. Among the World’s major cities, Tokyo and Paris fared well, as did another ARI Registry Services client .melbourne.

ARI Registry Services has signed 161 contracts to provide the technical support for new TLD applicants, equating to almost 10% of the global new TLD market.

“It’s been a long and exciting day, but it’s a fantastic outcome to have nearly a third of our clients in the top 500. The process is moving along full steam ahead and we can’t wait until delegation in mid 2013. We will be right in the thick of it,” Kinderis said.

ARI Registry Services has provided the following analysis of how applicants fared in the draw.
