Radix, the UAE based registry operator for a number of new TLDs, has won the rights to operate the popular new gTLD .site for an undisclosed amount, and is looking to launch it in early 2015. This was a big win for Radix as it went up against industry heavyweights including Donuts, Minds+ Machines and Interlink Co.
.site is a short, generic, and easily understood nTLD by end consumers. It is already amongst the most pre-registered new gTLDs across several registrars and features in the list of top new gTLDs across United Domains’, OVH, InternetX, and Gandi. In addition, .site ranked 3rd in the top 10 most valuable new gTLDs with “highest potential for success” in a study conducted by Sedo.
There are currently 173,485 domains ending with “site”—the management at Radix sees this as an indicator of the strong potential the extension holds. Sandeep Ramchandani, Business Head at Radix commented: “We think .site is one of the most promising new TLDs and gives end consumers a great opportunity to get good quality names. The fact that the term ‘site’ is so widely recognized coupled with our extensive distribution network will serve to ensure that more end consumers get meaningful and memorable domain names of their choice.”
Radix is run by a team of veterans from the domain name industry who understand the impact that a TLD like .site can have on the rapidly growing Internet community. .site is Radix’s 6th new gTLD extension after .press, .host, .website, .space, and .tech. Radix also continues to be in the running to acquire other exciting new extensions such as .Blog, .Shop, .Music, .Web, etc. and the team aspires to continue this streak of adding high quality TLDs to its portfolio.
